Care Packages
Please be aware that all packages will be searched
BECAUSE OF THE CORONAVIRUS …
If you’re sending a package (or letter) through the mail, you can send it to: <patient’s name>, c/o Cornerstone of Recovery, 4726 Airport Highway, Louisville, TN 37777. However, if you live locally and wish to drop off a package, we’ve implemented new procedures to protect the treatment communities at Cornerstone of Recovery and Stepping Stone to Recovery from the threat of COVID-19. All items being dropped off for patients in either facility will need to be delivered to our facility at: 1140 Topside Road, Louisville, TN 37777. Packages and items will ONLY be accepted during the following times:
Tuesdays: From 9-11 a.m.
Thursdays: From 5-6:20 p.m.
Saturdays: From 9-11 a.m. AND from 2-3:30 p.m.
Staff will be present during these designated times to accept deliveries, and the items will then be delivered to the appropriate campuses, where they will be searched and screened per our usual protocols. Items will NOT be accepted at any other time, except those that patients bring with them when they arrival for Admission. Thank you for your understanding!
If you have a loved one in our care, you may be wondering if it’s acceptable to mail them care packages.
We understand your desire to do so. Visitation is limited, and you may be feeling a myriad of emotions surrounding your loved one’s decision to seek help for addiction: anxiety, fear, concern, worry. Let us assure you, first and foremost, that while a patient at Cornerstone of Recovery, your loved one is in good hands. Their needs are being met, and if there are items they need that weren’t packed, we’ll make sure they get them. In addition, Cornerstone has on campus a small “Corner Market” where snacks and personal hygiene items can be purchased.
In order to protect the safety of our patients and reduce the time involved with searching and screening packages, food and snack items from outside the facility are not allowed. We hope that you understand the necessity of limiting consumable products in order to provide the safest environment possible for our residential patients.
Remember that living quarters have limited space, and the time patients spend there is short. All items brought into our facility must go through a screening process. Unless an item is essential for personal safety (e.g. medications, eyeglasses, or medical devices) or necessary for participation in outdoor activities or fitness programming, they will be distributed twice per week (Wednesday and Sunday evenings). If you do decide to send a package, please limit its size and the amount of items enclosed. Keep in mind that your loved one will need to move these items with them as they transition through levels of care (for example, from Medical Detox to Residential Inpatient to Intensive Outpatient).
All packages will be inspected by Cornerstone of Recovery staff members, and the more items a package contains, the longer it takes to sort through them.
Because of the nature of our facility, there are several items that patients are not allowed to possess while under our care. Those include:
Cologne or perfume
Mouthwash, unless it’s alcohol free (examples of allowable mouthwash: Smart Mouth Alcohol-Free Mouthwash, Listermint Alcohol Free Mouth Wash or Act Alcohol Free Anti-Cavity Fluoride Rinse)
Aerosol cans
Products with alcohol listed in the first 5 ingredients are not permitted. (Allowable forms include cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol and denatured alcohol, which cannot be consumed and are typically found in conditioners, deodorants, and lotions.)
Any items that do not show proof of content on the label
Reading material that is not spiritual in nature or recovery-related. Remember: This isn’t a vacation, and we want to encourage our patients to maintain a singular focus on recovery.
Condoms, sexual devices or enhancement medications
Inappropriate pictures or pornography
Drug or alcohol paraphernalia
Electronic devices of any kind
Cameras (digital or film)
No food or drink items are allowed
Weapons, including pocketknives or pen knives
Bedding and pillows (these are provided)
So where should letters, cards, packages and other mail be sent or brought?
By mail: All packages should be addressed to your loved one, care of Cornerstone of Recovery, 4726 Airport Highway, Louisville, TN 37777. Our reception staff will sign for or receive them and ensure that they’re delivered to the appropriate program coordinators. As noted above, all items will be inspected before being given to your loved one. If you live in the East Tennessee area and wish to drop off a package for your loved one, please note that our drop-off policy has changed due to concerns over COVID-19. Please refer to the top of this page for drop-off instructions.
Please keep in mind that Cornerstone of Recovery is a place of healing. Our mission is to provide your loved one with the tools needed to live a life of sustained recovery, and in the early days of their recovery journey, our patients are often emotionally fragile. We strongly encourage letters from home and words of encouragement to continue the process they so bravely started. With your help, we can ensure that their experiences here at Cornerstone are positive ones, and that when they return to you, they possess in abundance the one item that can never be packaged up: hope.
