South Carolina Inpatient Alcohol & Drug Rehab

How bad is alcoholism and addiction in South Carolina? The numbers are troubling:

  • According to one estimate, over a one-year period, 266,000 residents — roughly 5 percent of the state’s population — have an alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse problem.
  • In 2017, South Carolina had the second-highest number of DUI-related fatalities in the country.
  • At 15.5 people per 100,000 residents, the rate of opioid overdose-related deaths is higher than the national average, but the biggest increase in opioid deaths occurred due to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. The number of deaths increased by nearly 10 times from 46 in 2012 to 2017, when there were 404.
  • According to the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, drinking and driving by high school students in the Palmetto State skyrocketed by 40 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Needless to say, those figures are troubling and indicative of a serious health problem. South Carolina isn’t alone, of course, but according to the South Carolina DAODAS, there was a 21 percent increase from 2016 to 2017 in state residents ages 26 and older who needed treatment for illicit drug use but didn’t receive it.

For those struggling with addiction, there’s nothing more demoralizing than needing and wanting help but being unable to obtain it. Some of those limitations are financial, while others may struggle to find competent treatment programs in South Carolina. But what if they expanded their search? What if they looked beyond their state to one nearby — say, East Tennessee?

South Carolina Alcohol & Drug Rehab Programs

There’s where you’ll find Cornerstone of Recovery, a substance abuse treatment facility that’s been helping addicts and alcoholics find a new way of life since 1989. We began as a small, family-owned facility established by a recovering alcohol with a passion for helping others achieve the sobriety and peace of mind he had discovered after his disease had robbed him of everything.

Over three decades, we’ve grown from a modest 18-bed facility in a suburban strip mall to a 25-acre campus with four separate facilities, all dedicated to the same mission established at the outset: that no addict or alcoholic need ever die from their afflictions, and that the misery they endure can end through the discovery and implementation of a new way of life.

What In Involved In Addiction Treatment Programs?

As one of the best rehab centers in the nation, Cornerstone provides the sort of professional care that rivals that of most major medical institutions. With more than 250 staff members, our goal is to provide a therapeutic environment that offers an opportunity for healing and hope during what for many individuals is the most difficult crisis of their lives. Our treatment services are designed to inform, educate, rehabilitate and transform, so that those who come to us with a substance abuse problem understand that they’re not bad people trying to become good; they’re sick people who need to get well.

The first step along that journey begins in Medical Detox, where around-the-clock supervision and comfort medication keep patients as comfortable as possible during the process through which drugs and toxins are purged from their systems. After a three- to five-day detox stay, patients then transition into one of our four residential treatment programs:

Newcomers Residential Program

An introduction to the disease concept in addition to various recovery tools designed to address the issues at the root of it. We feel strongly that those who suffer need an understanding of why they seem to be stuck in the destructive patterns of addiction and alcoholism, so this treatment track serves as an educational process as well as a therapeutic one.

Young Adult Residential

A program built for men ages 18 to 26 who require a different approach than older patients. Designed for restless bodies and active minds, it’s a more hands-on approach to treatment, and it includes some vocational therapy to help jump-start a life that was derailed by addiction before it had a chance to truly begin.

Recovery Renewal Program

For those who have prior treatment experience but have been unable to sustain long-term recovery. Whether they’ve recently relapsed or have never been able to live sober outside of a treatment environment, this program takes a deeper look at unresolved issues, traumas and challenges that may be in the way of permanent recovery.

Women’s Drug Rehab Program

A program designed specifically for female patients that gives them a safe space in which to process gender-specific issues. Buoyed by a sorority of like-minded peers, women in recovery face different obstacles and have different needs, and this program was created to specifically address those.

In addition to those treatment plans, recovery at Cornerstone may include behavioral health services to address co-occurring psychiatric disorders, as well as an additional layer of recovery through our post-residential Intensive Outpatient Program. As residents of our Sober Living community, patients can extend their stay and build a network of recovering peers that make them stronger individuals, so than when they return home to South Carolina, they’re more likely to put those recovery methods into practice.

Does Cornerstone Accept My Health Insurance?

Cornerstone of Recovery is in network with most major commercial and private health insurance plans, and because of federal regulations, those plans are required by law to offer behavioral health benefits that are on par with other medical coverage. If you’re unsure whether you have such coverage, or whether we take your particular plan, please call our Admissions staff.

We’ll check your benefits and give you a detailed explanation of how much coverage you’ll receive, and we’ll help you determine what financial arrangements you might be able to make in order to pay for what’s not covered. Granted, not everyone has funds for drug and alcohol treatment, but it’s a good decision to call us and explore all of your options than to give up and continue with the way of life that’s causing you so much pain.

Why Consider Leaving South Carolina For Treatment

There are a number of treatment options available to those who struggle with chemical dependency, but few offer the comprehensive levels of care that we do at Cornerstone. We’re only a few hours away from South Carolina, within a day’s drive or less from most of the state, but far enough away that a change of scenery and location might be exactly what you need to get on top of a problem that’s slowly destroying you.

We’ve found that patients we treat from around the country often benefit greatly from a change of environment, and relocating for a stay in East Tennessee is often the ideal antidote to the people, places and things that act as triggers for your continued use.

Still not sure Cornerstone is the right treatment center for you?
